Who am i after anoreixa?
Recently I found a quote, that inspired this blog post that hopefully yous can take something from , it inspired me to keep going. Unfortunately I can't remember who came up with this ... But it went along the lines of, "Our eating disorders consume us until we learn to feel through our eating disorders. We lose weight and ed is happy ... So we believe we are happy. Then throughout recovery, since anoreixa is loosing it becomes miserable and we are so used to feeling through anorexia we believe we too are miserable. But recovery is life and life is amazing." It's a lovely quote ( something like that haha) but you get the point ?. But a lot of you's are proberly thinking , since anorexia has had you in its grips for so long... Who am I without my eating disorder? It is HARD I'm not taking that away from you but Hopefully I can help.
Lists of the basics although it might sound silly , is a good (relativity easy) start. for an example ... I am a daughter , a big sister , a morning person. Gradually build up that list , it can take as long as you need and maybe friends and family could help you too?
Think back to all the hobbies you had before the eating disorder , how happy they made you. For me , I was a dancer , a figure skater and always outdoors. Why not try new hobbies ? Or get a new hobby, Push yourself and try something you never thought was for you ... You never know. If physical activity isn't the best idea for you right now , how about art ? Learn a new instrument ? , pick up photography or reading ?
Not only will a hobby give you something to enjoy and distract you , but it will give you a sense of control and achievement and being included. (Something your eating disorder lied about giving you.)
The future. Think about all those long term things. Do you want to get married? Have children ? Learn to drive ? Get that dream job ? If it helps imagine your life in 10 years, where do you want to be? There's a difference between "living" and " existing". And all those things .. Wouldn't be possible with anorexia.
When your eating disorder goes away , your not going to be left with a emptiness, gradually it will fade and other things wil take its place. The less eating disorder in your head the more room there will be for other more important things. As scary as that sounds, life with anorexia isn't a life .... Remember that and stay strong.
